An then it hits you…

I sincerely thought my second post would be something from the “up” side but I was wrong.

I had just spoken with two equity crowd platforms from UK, got the plan all drown out: do a crowdfuning campaign, get investor interest, raise awareness and then get investment. Everything was in place, every relation and channel was set up. I was feeling indestructible, I could feel the drive that was inside me, and then it hit me….

After the last online meetings before we would go live, my technical co-founder just said that he was involved with a startup that had just raised VC funds and he will be going full time on it. What the f… ? I was busting my balls to get investments, going to meetings, coading on the app and server side, putting everything in motion and there he was, saying he had just jumped ship and “sorry but you guys had full time jobs, I was just a professor at the University”.

I can’t even describe what I felt. I had just switched to part time from my job to work on my dream, and it was over even before it could take off…

I had realised what Paul Graham said, that I was in an emotional roller-coaster. For a moment I felt on the top and seconds after I was in the lowest place I had ever been with this project. I was shocked, I knew that my co-founder had a project he was working on, but not this!!!! My first thought was anger, than frustration. By the time I got home, I wasn’t even angry no more, I just had a sense of soreness…

It was my mistake. I should have paid more attention and should have understood more about how to pick your co-fouders. It’s all about the people and then comes everything else. I think I will elaborate on this in a future post when I will be more objective about the subject.

Now I have to see what I can save from all this. He was the only guy in my team that knew the hardware (and he was a damn good hardware guy, I think the best in my country). The funny thing is that we run away with my advisor at my advisor’s startup, the guy that I brought in to advice us to achieve success.

But that’s life, you have to love it for what it is, pick yourself up, shake the dirt off and go ahead with your journey in pursuit of your dreams.
